Poverty and Health in Latin America
Lecture, three hours; discussion, two hours. Course 26A is enforced requisite to 26B, which is enforced requisite to 26CW. Limited to first-year freshmen. Introduction to social determinants of health, with focus on cultural, historical, socioeconomic, public health, medical, political, and artistic context of poverty in modern Latin America and on different local, national, and regional responses to health inequities. Exploration of major trends and debates that have shaped and continue to define issues related to poverty and health in region. Letter grading.
