SMS alert terms

Updated September 19, 2026. dibs is a product of Smiling Plug.

SMS alerts are not available yet. These terms describe the planned optional service; no texts are activated by visiting this page or buying Premium.

What you choose

With eligible Premium access, you can choose recurring automated texts from dibs about seat openings for classes you watch. This pilot supports verified US mobile numbers and requires email alerts to remain enabled. A verification text proves control of your number; it does not enable recurring alerts. You must separately agree and turn them on.

SMS consent is not a condition of purchasing Premium or using dibs. Free email alerts remain available. This program does not send marketing texts or class-chat messages.

Frequency and charges

Frequency varies with openings. The pilot allows up to 30 seat-alert texts in a rolling 30 days and no more than 4 a day, measured in Los Angeles time. Limits can also pause sending across the service. There are no paid overages from dibs. Your carrier's message and data rates may apply. Verification and help or opt-out responses are separate from the seat-alert allowance.

Stop or get help

Reply STOP to stop texts, or turn off SMS in SMS settings. You can also request that texts stop or ask for help at dibs@smilingplug.org. Reply HELP for support information. A final opt-out confirmation may be sent. Stopping SMS does not turn off your email alerts.

If you opted out by text and want to rejoin, contact support. Buying Premium again or replying START does not automatically restart dibs alerts.

Limits of an alert

Texts use the same registrar readings as email. They do not make dibs check more frequently. Seats may close before you act, and an opening does not confirm you meet restrictions or prerequisites. Check MyUCLA before enrolling. Delivery can be delayed or fail; carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. SMS pauses when Premium expires, email alerts are disabled or the SMS allowance is reached. Stale alerts are not saved for later delivery.

Your number

Use a number you control and turn off SMS before giving it up. Changing a number requires new verification and consent. See the dibs privacy details for the records we keep and Twilio's role in delivering messages.
