Is one term a guide to the next?

Across the measured corpus, the same course and instructor's term averages were strongly correlated, including terms several years apart. That is why the adjustment does not weight recent terms more heavily. This is a dataset-wide pattern, not a promise about this instructor's next class.

Reading these figures

Raw is the mean of the recorded letter grades. The adjusted historical GPA pulls an instructor's average toward the course's adjusted average, which itself uses a department prior. It is a comparison aid, not a calibrated prediction or a student rating. Small samples carry more uncertainty. All recorded instructor roles are included, and a section is counted only once for this instructor. Grades cannot establish workload or explain why outcomes differed.
