Clusters run across three quarters, fall, winter, then the spring seminar, and UCLA counts the credit on completing the yearlong cluster: four GE requirements and the Writing II requirement. Signing up for the first quarter is signing up for the year.

From the registrar limited by standing

Seats are held for entering students who enroll through New Student Orientation sessions beginning July 2, 2026. New student restrictions will be lifted on September 15, 2026 at 8 a.m. Upon satisfactorily completing Clusters M27A, M27B, and M27CW, students receive credit for the following requirements: one Literary and Cultural Analysis GE, one Historical Analysis GE, two Social Analysis GEs. Upon satisfactorily completing Clusters M27A, M27B, and M27CW students will fulfill the Writing II requirement. Students must receive a grade of D- or better each quarter to receive general education credit and continue in the course. To receive credit for Writing II, students must satisfy Writing I by the end of the year, successfully complete fall and winter quarters, and earn a grade of C or better in spring quarter.
