(Same as Music M6A and Musicology M6A.) Laboratory, four hours. Course M6A is enforced requisite to M6B, which is enforced requisite to M6C. Students must receive grade of C- or better to proceed to next course in sequence. Introduction to global musicianship through in-depth exploration of basic musical elements through performance, aural skills, and active listening. Engages with melodic information represented in solfège, harmonic information in Nashville number system, and rhythmic information in both Western notation and digital audio workstation grid visualization. Letter grading.

Certain upper-division Ethnomusicology courses may be restricted to department majors and minors during the first enrollment pass. If applicable, these restrictions will be lifted at the start of the second pass. If enrollment restrictions are not lifted by the start of the second pass, contact the instructor to request a PTE number to enroll. Receiving a PTE is not guaranteed. Seats are held for entering students who enroll through New Student Orientation sessions beginning July 2, 2026. New student restrictions will be lifted on September 15, 2026 at 8 a.m.
