The registrar's own records: 600 grades over 6 terms, Fall 2021 to Fall 2025. Every instructor is pooled here.

What is inside that record

1 of those terms is a summer session, and summer sessions are counted here.

The table below splits them, and term averages across those 6 terms ran 2.79 to 3.63.

Historical grades for all professors, across recorded terms. The course summary above includes all professors.

  • A+ 80 · 13.3%
  • A 168 · 28.0%
  • A- 110 · 18.3%
  • B+ 83 · 13.8%
  • B 66 · 11.0%
  • B- 25 · 4.2%
  • C+ 23 · 3.8%
  • C 12 · 2.0%
  • C- 5 · 0.8%
  • D+ 2 · 0.3%
  • D 4 · 0.7%
  • D- 1 · 0.2%
  • F 21 · 3.5%
  • P 19 of 621
  • NP 1 of 621
  • I 1 of 621

Percentages are of the 600 letter grades. Grey bars are non-letter outcomes: passes (P), no-passes (NP), and incompletes (I).

How the non-letter outcomes are counted

They are excluded from the GPA entirely rather than scored, because counting a P as a 4.0 would be a fabrication.

By instructor

Predicted GPA, raw average, sample size, terms, A range and the workload reviewers reported for every instructor with a grade record in this course
Instructor Predicted GPA Raw n Terms A range Workload Fall 2025
SEXTON, JASON S reviews ↗ 3.38 3.38 474 5 62% light not teaching it
GUHIN, JEFFREY J reviews ↗ 3.39 3.39 126 1 52% - not teaching it
Why Predicted is not the Raw average

“Predicted” is shrunk toward the course average, which is itself shrunk toward the department, so an instructor with a handful of students sits near the course mean rather than topping the list.

Grade records describe outcomes. For what a course is like to take, read student reviews written on dibs below or follow the separate external review link.

In Falls

Ran in 2 of the last 5 Falls, so it turns up in Fall sometimes rather than dependably.

From the terms dibs holds, which start in Fall 2021 and exclude summer. A department can run a course in a quarter it never has before.

From the registrar's catalog

Lecture, three hours; discussion, one hour. Examination of classic and contemporary work in social scientific study of religion. Analysis of definition of religion, role of religion in modern life, and role of categories like Islam in contemporary U.S. politics. Focus on complicated question of what it means to say someone or something is religious: does that mean they are moral, believe in God, or are part of community of believers? Students gain better sense of how to think and talk about religion. P/NP or letter grading.
