The registrar's own records: 1,138 grades over 10 terms, Fall 2021 to Fall 2025, summer excluded. Every instructor is pooled here. The table below splits them, and term averages across those 10 terms ran 3.17 to 3.59.

  • A+ 102 · 9.0%
  • A 311 · 27.3%
  • A- 240 · 21.1%
  • B+ 161 · 14.1%
  • B 117 · 10.3%
  • B- 64 · 5.6%
  • C+ 40 · 3.5%
  • C 36 · 3.2%
  • C- 28 · 2.5%
  • D+ 8 · 0.7%
  • D 9 · 0.8%
  • D- 2 · 0.2%
  • F 20 · 1.8%
  • P 51 of 1,217
  • NP 9 of 1,217
  • I 17 of 1,217
  • DR 2 of 1,217

Percentages are of the 1,138 letter grades. Grey bars are non-letter outcomes: passes (P), no-passes (NP), incompletes (I), and withdrawals (DR). They are excluded from the GPA entirely rather than scored, because counting a P as a 4.0 would be a fabrication. Withdrawals are the exception to "excluded": DR is not scored, but it IS counted in the D, F or W figure above, which is reported over the letter grades plus the withdrawals. Pass/no pass and S/U outcomes are outside that figure on both sides.

“Predicted” is shrunk toward the course average, which is itself shrunk toward the department, so an instructor with a handful of students sits near the course mean rather than topping the list.

dibs measures outcomes: grades, seats, how fast a class fills. For what a class is like to sit in, BruinWalk has the reviews.

In Falls

Ran in 3 of the last 5 Falls, so it turns up in Fall sometimes rather than dependably.

From the terms dibs holds, which start in Fall 2021 and exclude summer. A department can run a course in a quarter it never has before.

From the registrar's catalog

Lecture, three hours; laboratory, two hours; field days. Elements of Earth science; study of Earth materials; nature and interpretation of geologic evidence; study of geologic processes; historical aspects of geology. Mandatory field trips introduce students to solving of geologic problems in field. P/NP or letter grading.

Sections in Fall 2026

You enroll in the discussion, not the lecture, so a discussion's status is the one that decides whether you get in. A lecture can read open while every discussion under it is full.

Seat counts as of : the oldest of these 10 readings. The registrar publishes hourly and dibs reads what it can each hour, so a row can be older than that.

Final enrollment, averaged across each term's sections: between 117 and 257 a term over 7 terms, summer excluded, most recently 118 in Winter 2025. That is the shape across years, not this term, which is above.
